Electronic duo Victoria & Jacob return with a new single ‘Cry Baby’ in advance of their self-titled debut album.
With sophisticated instrumentation and intricate arrangements, the track is epic in nature and heralds the glittering beats and sounds that appear on the full length. Blending the nostalgic glamour of Lana del Rey, with the wry experimentation of the Knife and the effortless cool of Grimes, Victoria & Jacob offer a singularly British take on contemporary themes.
A true collaboration between Victoria Harrison’s songwriting and lilting vocals and Jacob Mayfield’s production wizadry, ‘Cry Baby’ elegantly showcases their skills. The track also features Valérie Balligand on cello, whose contributes haunts and enhances the final section of the song.
Like the “Festival” single before it, “Cry Baby” will also be reworked by a number of remixers including Darren Hayman and Antwerp.
Their album is due out on Fika Recordings and WIAIWYA in August.
Having formed in Cambridge, the duo have since moved to London to concentrate on music and with their early releases have enjoyed coverage in the NME, Line of Best Fit, Artrocker and Time Out among others and radio play from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Jon Hillcock and Tom Robinson.
